Which are the bad foods for gout sufferers and which are the best? This is all to do with purine levels in the actual foods consumed. High levels may increase uric acid levels in the blood and therefore precipitate a gout attack. On the other hand, foods consumed with low purine levels shouldn’t much, if any, increase uric acid levels and are therefore favoured.
Food generally high in purine include:
- Red meats;
- Organ meats;
- Fish;
- Beer and lager.
- Products containing brewers yeast;
So if you want to avoid ‘bad foods’, try consuming mainly low purine foods.

Your website’s design and layout is nice and clean! Doctor Rye always advises to get rest when a flare-up starts. I heard gout mostly affects men but it seems mixed in our family. I get it bad, really bad at nights when I get no relief at all! For me, identifying bad foods (high purine) and eliminating them helped! First times ever, after getting this disorder, I started reading up on it from different webblogs and sites, learned a lot. Enjoyable read about gout… thanks. Mo Evans
